White rice has its place, but brown rice is healthier, better tasting and the rice of choice for certain dishes, especially beef entrees such as shish-kebab brochettes.
Brown Rice
Ingredients
- 1 cup brown rice
- 1¼ water
- 1 Tablespoon butter
- 1 teaspoon of beef base or 1 beef bullion cube
- ½ teaspoon of Kitchen Bouquet ®
Directions

Combine butter, water and beef base in a medium sized pot and bring to a rapid boil.

Stir in brown rice and Kitchen Bouquet, reduce heat to simmer, cover and allow to cook for at least 30 minutes, leaving the pot covered.

Turn off the burner and allow the rice to steam with the cover on for an additional 10 minutes.

Remove the lid and fluff with a fork before serving. If the grains are too tough (al dente), add a tablespoon or so of water and allow to simmer until the desired consistency is obtained.
