Traditional Wassail

Until just a few years ago, the typical Holiday Season drinks included the typical holiday drinks, like hot spiced rum, egg-nog, hot apple cider, and the Brandy Alexander. Then, I was introduced to another holiday beverage that has literally been around for ages. It’s called “wassail” and here is a simple recipe for it!

Traditional Wassail

  • Servings: 36
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Print

  • 2 gallons apple cider
  • 1 cup fresh orange juice
  • 1 cup fresh cranberry juice
  • 1 cup lemon juice
  • 1 cup pineapple juice
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 tablespoon whole cloves
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 2 oranges, thinly sliced
  • 5 cinnamon sticks

  1. Mix the apple cider, orange juice, cranberry juice, lemon juice, pineapple juice, and sugar together in a large pot over medium-low heat.

  2. Add cinnamon, ginger, and orange slices into the mixture.

  3. Place cloves in a tea ball and submerse into the mixture.

  4. Simmer until steaming, about 30 to 35 minutes.

  5. Serve from pot with large ladle.
