Until just a few years ago, the typical Holiday Season drinks included the typical holiday drinks, like hot spiced rum, egg-nog, hot apple cider, and the Brandy Alexander. Then, I was introduced to another holiday beverage that has literally been around for ages. It’s called “wassail” and here is a simple recipe for it!
Traditional Wassail
Ingredients
- 2 gallons apple cider
- 1 cup fresh orange juice
- 1 cup fresh cranberry juice
- 1 cup lemon juice
- 1 cup pineapple juice
- 1 cup white sugar
- 1 tablespoon whole cloves
- 1 teaspoon ground ginger
- 2 oranges, thinly sliced
- 5 cinnamon sticks
Directions
-
Mix the apple cider, orange juice, cranberry juice, lemon juice, pineapple juice, and sugar together in a large pot over medium-low heat.
-
Add cinnamon, ginger, and orange slices into the mixture.
-
Place cloves in a tea ball and submerse into the mixture.
-
Simmer until steaming, about 30 to 35 minutes.
-
Serve from pot with large ladle.
